Romanticism Prize (Hedges)

Saint Maxime makes his class speak

By debuting in the Prix Master Bob (Hedges), at Compiègne, Saint Maxim (Turgeon) could not do better than fifth, without really convincing. Saturday, in the Prix Romantisme (Hedges), the representative of the Christophe German stable, of François Nicolle, of the Reverdy stable, of the Thomas Levesque stable, of the Pierre Levesque breeding and of Hugues Rousseau has this times unveilstar all its potential. Immediately in the lead, the future winner overcame the first difficulties, with his ears pointed. In front, he followed freely, while being relaxed, then he came to the outside of the track to enter the straight line. Driven by Angelo Zuliani, the colt overcame the last two hurdles without difficulty and then only increased his lead, on the flat, deploying good strides. Seven lengths further, Berlais Booster (Martaline), long seen in second position, was never able to worry him. The latter is ahead Toscana of Berlais (Shantou) of four lengths. The way Saint Maxime overcame the obstacles shows that he could have a very bright future, in steeplechase, and, why not, be part of tomorrow’s elite. In this regard, François Nicolle, his mentor, taught us: “Saint Maxime disappointed me a bit on his debut at Compiègne. He hadn’t charted a very good course and today I asked Angelo Zuliani to get off to a good start. For me, he is a very good colt who has certainly “done something” because, although the race was not very fast, the horsesyou put a big throttle to finish. He still had it under his feet. He will probably be a very good horse for the steeplechase. That said, he will not discover this discipline before the fall. »

A full brother of Saint Richard. Raised by Richard Godefroy, Saint Maxime is a son of Turgeon (Caro) and Basketball (Ungaro), who ran four times over hurdles, for a fourth place at Auteuil on his second outing. Saint Maxime is his mother’s second winner after Gochetial (Doctor Dino), winner of the Robert Weill Prize and third of the Fifrelet Prize (Ls). Saint Maxime is the full brother of Saint Richard (Turgeon), who never won but finished second in the Prix Fleuret (Gr3). The broodmare also has a 3-year-old named Sainte-Turbeau (Turgeon) and a 2-year-old: Holy Basket (Castle of Berlais). The second mother, Basketball Gironde (Iron Duke), won twice, on the flat, in the provinces. The latter gave in particular A Nononito (Nononito), winner of eight races including the 2005 edition of the Prix Congress (Gr2) and the Prix Roger de Minvielle (L) then contested at Enghien.
