Horses, Anne-Laure’s hobby at Les Écuries les Bréjoires, in Garchy

Les Bréjoires stables have been open for eleven years at Les Septiers, in Garchy. From 2014 until the confinements, Anne-Laure Gounelle had chosen to put aside the pony-club activity to devote herself to training and dressage courses. Thus, she criss-crossed France, from stable to stable.

But the Covid-19 has “changed the game”, confides the riding instructor, who wanted “to resume activities locally”. Thus, since the start of the school year in September, she has taken care of school horses and others on half board (she lodges and takes care of the animals of other owners).

Initiations for those who have never approached a horse

From the Easter holidays, she will completely relaunch the pony club activity. With half-day training. But also open days, at the end of June. In order to prepare for the start of the school year in September with the aim of welcoming small groups of riders for “courses, in a family spirit”, she specifies. “They will be open from 3 years old, from initiation to training. »

Anne-Laure Gounelle would like to offer, for example, “walks all together with the ponies. We go up, we discover. “With also the desire to introduce the environment” to people who have never approached a horse. Even without wanting to ride on it, they could get to know the horse, approach it, take care of it”.

“I want to pass on knowledge”

Anne-Laure Gounelle, who holds a state coaching diploma, praises the merits of pedagogy. And no way for her to keep her knowledge. “I don’t train the horses and then leave the riders to fend for themselves. We do it together. I make sure that afterwards they don’t need me anymore. If I arrive with a horse and not the rider, the contract is not respected. I want to pass on knowledge. That the student becomes autonomous and appropriates riding. »

For this, the trainer specializing in dressage, who will continue to teach her favorite specialty, relies “on pedagogy, knowing that riding is a teaching that is based on sensations. It’s not always easy to find the words. We must think of solutions that combine practice and play. We must also ask ourselves questions to do the best and make the situation less uncomfortable for the horses. Approved methods since some of his students do not hesitate to drive an hour to perfect their skills.

Anne-Laure Gounelle has, in addition to the traditional sand quarry, set up a fun course. Thus, workshops with obstacle passage, water holes, curtains, a rocking board have emerged. “It’s a lot of fun for the children,” remarked the instructor, who wants to work on these exercises with her students both under saddle and on foot. “It’s as important to be next to it as on it. »

Workshops for Easter

Right next to this fun course, a lunging ring has been built. The floor is covered with shredded material. “A first layer was laid in September,” explains Anne-Laure Gounelle. “This is forest soil that will decompose. Because we are also thinking about implementing solutions like these. The horses of the manager of Les Bréjoires stables (hers and those she hosts) no longer spend their days locked in a box. They have access to the box with paddock or the meadow with shelter.
